June 2010

I just found the time to do some minor tweeks and reorganising, adding some sketches and some new links that I've found around the web. Sites like "but does it float" and "fuck you very much" have been very inspiring to me as of late. Also added some essential music sites to the link section, to the people who know me it will come as no surpise to find Dublab and Low End Theory in there, go ahead and add them to your monthly podcast subscription, these people have some rediculously good output. I've cleaned up the photogrpahy section as I found a little bit of more is less to ring true for the clutter on that section of the site. The sketchbook has been updated with quite a few new bits, with more updates on the way. But, good things come to those who wait, in my case that's a scanner.

A few months ago I announced the coming of my book of my 2008 travel to Afghanistan. In September the presentation was held at Sleaze videostore which now tragically has gone bust. On the bright side of things that means there's stll a few copies of the book availaible. The book cost 26 euros per copy + shipping to the destination of your preference. To get your mits on a copy, email me.

It's always good practise to draw with the old pen and paper, to hold an actual brush from time to time. With this concept in mind I thought it would be nice to share my scribbles and adventures in the physical world on paper. It is my intention to update this part regularly, but most likely it will happen in bulk. enjoy ;-)

As earlier announced on the page, I've decided to bundle my Afghanistan photos into a sweet little 7 x 7" book. The book has landed! The circulation will be extremely limited (25 copies only) at first. The book features almost all the photographs in the series on my site, plus extras like an interview and introductions to things on both camps and the themes handled. The cost of a single copy is 26 euros plus postage to the destination of your choice. To get your mits on a copy, email me.

August 2009. I went down to London to sniff up some culture and meet up with friends. Of course I could not resist bringing my camera along and keep an eye out for the things that I always keep an eye out for. People and the way the environment is influenced and vice versa. The city seemed rather distant, until a few days in and I noticed subtle ways in which communication takes place. This is a running project, in the coming months/years I will be adding more to the directory.

Barcelona, June 2009.Here are photos of scenes as everyone has seen them in their own town.People commuting to and fro, the local market and no one's really connecting. I've tried my best to avoid the cliche spots in town and come back with happy hipsters and Gaudi architecture, despite of the beauty of the latter and the easygoing vibe of the first, which are of course ever present.

May 2009. In 2008 I posted a series of photographs of my journey to Afghanistan where I was sent by Home Base Support to get inspired for the mission they sent me on; They wanted 5 illustrations and an animation depicting their core values and to appeal to their target audience, which consists mainly of Dutch soldiers on a mission abroad. They said they wanted to hire me because they thought my style of illustration was both sensitive and a bit rugged, I don't know if I nailed it this time.. but.. This project is now completed and I'm quite pleased with the result as it was by far the most challenging project I ever tackled. I'm glad that Home Base Support loves the outcome as well and the works will be displayed in their ECHOS homes all around the world. So if you're in the military and are serving your time on a base where the Dutch are stationed, chances are you'll run into my work.

For this piece I've drawn my inspiration from the dream sequence as seen in The Big Lebowski, fashion magazines and collage style animations. The whole aim was to make this look like analogue meets digital and to resemble some surrealistic dream. The lyrics of the tune are about growing up and wisdom, but the imagery is more of an associative quality if anything. June 2009.

So, it's time for a little experiment, I've put some wallpapers up in varying sizes and of various subjects on which I received positive feedback. They are all at least 1280 pixels high, but depending on the format the other value will vary. Depending on the interest displayed I will put up more wallpapers for you to download. For now this is it. See anything you like, but can't download? Tell me, I may just be able to provide you with a copy of the image you like.

In September 2008 I went to Afghanistan to visit Kandahar (KAF) and Tarin Kowt (kamp Holland) I was sent there to gather some inspiration for the job Home Base Support gave to me. What follows here is a photographic report of what goes on in normal day to day life on both camps. I would also like to thank everyone who helped me there and to give a little shout to people I've met along the way through this journey, as I think about you often.

ps all your loveletters and hatemail, or other types of mail can go here.. I had a few complaints my mail is invisible.. so here it is.. and I managed to make you look for it again :P A special thanks goes out to my dear friends for helping me out with making this website, I could not have done it without you!
